I Don't Wanna Die
Engine: Unity3D | Type: Vertically Scrolling Shoot 'em Up | Class Collab
ROLES
Level Designer
IN A FEW WORDS...
'Idonwannadie!' was a concept created by one of our team members in the beginning of the Spring 2018 semester at the Academy of Art University. A group of three students, including two Game Designers and a Modeler; we teamed up and developed this project in a span of five weeks.
Based on feedback provided by students after a series of playtests, we modified the project and made functionality improvements based on bugs encountered, focusing on what really matters: FUN!
TAKEAWAYS
This project was my first collab, constantly sharing assets with Modelers and Designers, which gave me a taste of how it might be in the industry.
My duties for this project were purely the Level Design, from blockout to planning and implementation of interaction and some World Gameplay mechanics.

Top-Down Paper-Map
The graphic on the left represents the final top-down map created. Changes were applied after gathering feedback from from a few playtests done with classmates and kids from a local school.

The biggest takeaway from this was that the players wanted to make the world feel more alive, and as a shooting game, they wanted more areas to cover and additional possibilities to come up with some strategies.

Gameplay Demonstration
Rather than showing the developers playing, after we posted the game online someone actually played(!) and posted a Gameplay video on Youtube.
